Having been confiscated as evidence during Captain Rackham’s trial in 1720, these coins – Spanish Doubloons – remained 

stored in the vault of Charleston 

(now Charles Town) Magistrate’s 

Court. They were re-discovered 

in 1924 and were sold 

amongst collectors until 

Burleigh purchased 

them in 2002.
